Camembert cheese gets its name from its town of origin in France. It's one of the world's most recognizable cheeses - a small wheel of about 4 inches in diameter, and covered with a 'bloomy' white rind which imparts mushroomy flavor. The white mold penicillium camemberti leaves a powdery white velvety bloom on the outside of the cheese, hence the expression bloomy rind.
