The story goes that this particular rice was exclusively eaten by the Emperors of China, because if its healthy properties and thus acquired the name Forbidden Rice or Emperors Rice. Black Rice does have a lot more antioxidants than its brown or white counterparts. One of these antioxidants is responsible for the color. Deep purple to black.
