Butterkase (Butter Cheese) is a rindless cheese that indeed looks like a big piece of butter, and is meant to taste like one too. The cheese is made by the German company Bauer, a company that was founded in 1887 by Franz Bauer and today the 5th generation of Bauers is at the helm.
Butterkase is a semi-soft cheese made from pasteurized cow's milk. It can be sliced when cold, but if warmed up to room temperature the slicing will be a little more difficult, as this creamy cheese will stick to the knife. It is gluten and lactose free.
