Idyll Farms Idyll Gris Cheese

A pasteurized goat cheese made by Idyll Farms in northern MI, using the farm’s own seasonal milk. The name (gris means “gray” in French) comes from the gray vegetable ash that runs through the cheese’s center and helps the edible rind to grow. Idyll Gris weighs about 1 pound.

$79.98

This ash-ripened goat cheese looks like both a two layer cake and a work of art. Young but lightly aged, this stunner is made of pastured goat milk in Michigan and demonstrates all the care of its production, in both flavor and appearance.

Hand ladled and painted with a silvery vegetable ash, Idyll Gris (pronounced “gree” French for “gray”) has a fluffy and light interior. Its taste is mild with notes of fresh cream, fruit and umami flavors, developing a gooey 'creamline' under the delicate thin rind as it ages.

Any goat cheese lover will be happy with this one, as well as those who are new to goat cheese. Since Idyll Farms goats are Certified Humane Raised and Handled, you can be sure there's minimal gamey goat flavor, as goats have plenty of space and fresh wild food to enjoy.

A gold and silver medalist at the 2016 World Championship Cheese Contest, a “2016 Best Cheese” by Culture magazine and recipient of two 1st places at the 2017 American Cheese Society. The experts have spoken! Pairs well with a tart, fresh white wine or a fruity, bright rose.
