Gran Moravia Italian Style Cheese
Gran Moravia is a hard aged cheese made in the Italian style of Grana Padano or Parmigiano Reggiano, but produced in the Moravia region of Czech Republic where the cheesemakers say the farm land is best for eco-sustainable cheese production.
Gran Moravia was born from the idea of a savvy businessman who thought he could make classic Italian table cheese in a place better than Italy. After searching Europe for prodigous farmland, one of the world's largest cheese factories was born in the Czech Republic. The focus however was making cheese with a traditional "grana" style recipe - a big hard-aged cow's milk cheese perfect for every use in the Italian kitchen. Durable and flavorful, it's a great sub for parmesan-type cheeses or grana padano. Try it grated or shaved in recipes, or in chunks on a cheese board or antipasti platter. The eco-conscious will appreciate this brand's dedication to being carbon-neutral cheese production - "a blend of tradition and technology" as they call it.
